I am proud to announce that our first “Student D.O. of the Month” is Doug Schiller, OMS-II.

Doug has gone above and beyond as a student, colleague and friend here at LMU-DCOM. He is the president of the Emergency Medicine club and a member of Sigma Sigma Phi, CMDA, and SOMA. Doug served as an instructor for the basic life support (BLS) and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) courses. Moreover, he participates in many intramural sports and is a member of the LMU-DCOM basketball team. He also participated in Relay for Life and the March of Dimes. Doug is great but we must not forget that Allison, his wife and a second year student, keeps him in line.

Doug has raised the bar for what is expected of students at LMU-DCOM. Please congratulate him when you get a chance.

There is a parking space labeled “Student DO of the Month” near the entrance to DCOM. Please be respectful and leave the space open for Doug and future recipients at all times during weekdays. If you decide to park your car in this space during the week you may find your car behind the BP station.

***If you would like to nominate a fellow student for Student DO of the Month please email LMUDCOM.SGA@gmail.com or contact a SGA officer.

Hi everyone!

I hope you are enjoying the weekend! It just started so yay!

VERY IMPORTANT TO SURVIVAL OF YOUR CLUB:

MINUTES are required of each club/organization. You must hold 3 meetings a semester and all three meetings must have minutes. Here are a few FAQ:

1) We had a movie viewing at our meeting and that was all we did. What do I do?

ANSWER: You should always take attendance. When you take your minutes please state that: attendance was taken, a movie (state title and what it was about) was viewed, and anything else you might have gone over or will discuss at next meeting (i.e we will be discussing the fundraiser that will rock everyone socks off at next meeting, or speaker set up for next EM meeting is Dina’s awesome husband Webb, etc).

2) We had a speaker at out last meeting and that was all. What do we do?

ANSWER: Please see above. State attendance taken, speaker’s name and what they spoke about. You could even include question and answers, etc for those who were not present! That would be very nice of you!

3) What is the format?

ANSWER: It can be whatever you want it to be provided it’s professional. This is an official document of your club and will be posted online. Please put title of club, date and state attendance was taken and when the meeting adjourned. Minutes typically include any recent events you discuss, any issues, finances, fundraisers, future events, conventions, etc.

4) Why do you need these minutes?

ANSWER: Minutes are required for several reasons, the most important being if a member is absent from the meeting, they can just check up on what they missed so they can be aware of deadlines, results of elections, etc. Also, it’s in our SGA bylaws so you need to have them, it’s a way to check your club is doing activities, remaining active and being all around awesome.

5) We have new officers what do we do?

ANSWER: Most clubs haven’t submitted minutes from the entire year, I need all minutes up until now, so even if you are a new secretary, the old secretary needs to send all three minutes from last semester. I am sure, unless you haven’t had a meeting since last semester, you should have a copy of this semester’s as well.

6) What if we got a new secretary in the middle of the year?

ANSWER: Please see above. The old secretary should have the minutes!

When is the DUE DATE???

DUE DATE FOR ALL MINUTES FROM LAST SEMSTER AND THIS SEMESTER UP until NOW are DUE TUESDAY 02MAR10 @ 5PM.

What happens if slips our mind and we forget??

If your club does not submit minutes, you will have to come to SGA with an explanation AND you risk having your funds pulled.

Secretaries: please email me the minutes and YOUR contact info (if it’s not outlook) so I can pass these along to the lovely new SGA secretary Nicole.

We are in the process of re-doing the website, so that’s why your minutes, for those of you awesome people who have sent them, are not up yet.

Also required by Tuesday are meeting attendance sheets to David Feaker!

THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING!

HAVE A FABULOUSLY glorious weekend!

Hey guys! I hope your weekend was spectacular!

I have gotten quite a few emails this year re: end of year newsletters and all of that good stuff. I thought I had emailed everyone (but then again I can’t be quite sure) that since Amy Drittler does a PHENOMENAL JOB with our official LMU-DCOM publication, press, etc., there wouldn’t be a point in doing a newsletter to sum up the year or semester. She provides pictures and detailed descriptions of any club or individual activity she can get a hold of.

If you or your club does anything in the community, overseas (i.e the Ryan Rose awesome Peds adventure) please send it to her!

As far as newsletters go, SOMA does a great and really comprehensive one (go Amanda!) monthly, but as far as Class Officers or SGA goes we will wait until the implentation of new officers!

Thanks again and please don’t hesitate to send Amy all the fabulous things you do!:)

Alright ladies and gentlemen, as promised – Women’s Health brings to you:

Go Red for Women week!

Starting tomorrow, WHMS will be selling t-shirts for only $5! We will also be selling the Go Red for Women “Red Dress” pins for $1! The sale ends Wednesday, so be sure to look for us at lunch or find me wandering around and I’ll get you hooked up!

Now, the t-shirts are the same as last year, so the 100% of the money raised from them will go to the American Heart Association! Sizes vary, and we’ll be selling them first come first serve. Make sure to get yours soon or your size may be sold out!

You’re probably saying to yourself, why do I need another t-shirt? I have plenty! You have 2 options:

Option 1:

It’s only $5, it’s for a good cause, AND you can wear it Friday (Feb 12) for DRESS DOWN DAY! Dr. Leo has graciously allowed us to dress down on Friday if you wear this t-shirt!

Option 2:

Dr. Leo has also graciously agreed to let you dress down Friday if you wear RED and make a donation! So, I will be outside the lecture halls before both the OMS-I and OMS-II lectures begin. If you don’t want to buy another t-shirt but want to dress down, choose this option!!

For you second years that already have a shirt, I hope that you would make a donation if you choose to wear your shirt or wear red to dress down on Friday.

Get good karma people!

If your email is coming in really slowly, like 3 days late, or you’re having problems changing your network password, let DCOM IT know by calling them at 423-869-7411 or 800-325-0900 since both sending and receiving email may be affected, so sending them an email at ishelpdesk@lmunet.edu will probably get stuck too. The IT Workorder request web page should notify in a different way than email, so you may want to try that as well. The link for that page is http:/www.lmunet.edu/is/workorder.shtml OMS III’s that are trying to use the CLIPP or WISE-MD lecture series for their core shelf exams next week will need to use school email to complete the registration.
Have a safe weekend!!! Alex Phillips
