The DCOM Intramural Basketball Tournament will be Thursday, March 11th starting at 6:10p.m. at Mary Mars Gym (behind the softball field). The competition has been excellent this year and the tournament should be fun to watch. Come out and show support for your favorite team. Here is a preview of what you might see.

I am proud to announce that our first “Student D.O. of the Month” is Doug Schiller, OMS-II.
Doug has gone above and beyond as a student, colleague and friend here at LMU-DCOM. He is the president of the Emergency Medicine club and a member of Sigma Sigma Phi, CMDA, and SOMA. Doug served as an instructor for the basic life support (BLS) and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) courses. Moreover, he participates in many intramural sports and is a member of the LMU-DCOM basketball team. He also participated in Relay for Life and the March of Dimes. Doug is great but we must not forget that Allison, his wife and a second year student, keeps him in line.
Doug has raised the bar for what is expected of students at LMU-DCOM. Please congratulate him when you get a chance.
There is a parking space labeled “Student DO of the Month” near the entrance to DCOM. Please be respectful and leave the space open for Doug and future recipients at all times during weekdays. If you decide to park your car in this space during the week you may find your car behind the BP station.

Hey guys! I hope your weekend was spectacular!
I have gotten quite a few emails this year re: end of year newsletters and all of that good stuff. I thought I had emailed everyone (but then again I can’t be quite sure) that since Amy Drittler does a PHENOMENAL JOB with our official LMU-DCOM publication, press, etc., there wouldn’t be a point in doing a newsletter to sum up the year or semester. She provides pictures and detailed descriptions of any club or individual activity she can get a hold of.
If you or your club does anything in the community, overseas (i.e the Ryan Rose awesome Peds adventure) please send it to her!
As far as newsletters go, SOMA does a great and really comprehensive one (go Amanda!) monthly, but as far as Class Officers or SGA goes we will wait until the implentation of new officers!

We are implementing a new program that recognizes students for their hard work and dedication to serving others during their years spent in medical school. Please read.
TOUCH – Translating Osteopathic Understanding into Community Health
TOUCH is a national program developed by the Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents (COSGP) to encourage medical students to preserve one of the basic tenets of osteopathic philosophy: a commitment to improving the health of our communities through service.
All osteopathic students who volunteer at least 50 hours of community service during the academic year are awarded the TOUCH pin in recognition of their commitment and a letter of commendation will be sent to Dean Stowers.
We will document LMU-DCOM’s annual effort to community service and public health. Nationally, the school demonstrating the most participation by students, faculty, and staff, the most significant impact on the community and the greatest creativity in its programming will be presented with the national TOUCH award.

If you are interested, please contact the Student Government Association (SGA) leadership at LMUDCOM.SGA@gmail.com or Patrick Craig, Christopher.craig@lmunet.edu, and commit to giving 50 hours this year. Anyone can TOUCH lives! If you see a need in the community please let the SGA know. Ideas include health fairs and education programs, blood drives, charity runs, OMT at sports events, medical mission trips, educational materials for physicians in other countries, etc.
We will be holding a meeting in the near future to discuss all of the details of TOUCH.

**There has been many recent emails on registering on Blackboard. Please follow Patrick Craigs instructions below to be able to register for any club. This was originally posted over the summer on July 6th**
Please re-enroll into your clubs of interest to view the organization pages. Please keep in mind that some club leaders may require you to pay dues in order to be an official club member.
Directions: Under the main Blackboard page, click “DCOM organizations”. Then click “Browse Organization Catalog”. Type “DCOM” in the box and click “GO”. It will give you a list of all of the active clubs at DCOM. Click “enroll”. All of the organizations that you are enrolled in will appear under “My organizations”.

If you didn’t know, there are classifieds on DCOMDO! Just check on the left side under pages and click on Classifieds. Many students are selling many things. Some current things being sold are an iPod Touch, some snorkling gear, and a couple books.
For the those of you who are new, the recycle at school and the apartments is run by the students. Anyone or any club that would like to volunteer for a month or the entire semester is welcome to do so. Please email me at patrick.matt@lmunet.edu if you would like to volunteer. Also, we only recycle aluminum cans and plastic bottles. Please do not put soup cans or any other trash in the bins as it makes more work for your peers. Please rinse out milk jugs and other containers that might sour.
