Who wants a running Abe T-shirt?
The LMU-DCOM Health Equity Club is sponsoring the second annual LMU-DCOM 5k Classic: AAC Edition on Saturday, April 24th at 9:00 am. Registration begins at 8:00 am. We will be taking registration forms the week before the race in the lobby. To guarantee yourself a T-shirt, please preregister then. The profits all go to benefit Adventure Amputee Camp. Last year the camp was almost cancelled due to lack of funds. The camp is free for amputee children throughout the southeast and usually has around forty to fifty children. They participate in a ropes course, go white water rafting, waterskiing, and many other activities. Please feel free to make donations if you won’t be in town or really hate running like I do. The race is $20.
There will be door prizes given out after the race and the top male and female finishers will receive gift certificates. Attached is the flyer for the race if you wish to post it at a spouse’s office, church, or any other location you deem fit. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact patrick.matt@lmunet.edu or christopher.craig@lmunet.edu

There is a RAM Clinic being held in Maynardville, TN on November 14th and 15th (Saturday and Sunday.) At this point, RAM and the Health Council are seeking volunteers to staff the event. They already have physicians, so none of our clinical staff are working the event. There is a need for general volunteers who will help patients get to where they need to go and possibly to take BP’s and patient histories. Hopefully some of us will be able to work as dental assistants at some point. Work will begin at 5:30 a.m. both days, and depending on how many people volunteer, you may only work one day. If you are interested, please contact me as you need to fill out a form. Forms will be due on Friday, October 23rd. Maynardville is about 45 minutes away. I will be able to house a few people so you do not have to drive back and forth if you plan on working both days.

For the those of you who are new, the recycle at school and the apartments is run by the students. Anyone or any club that would like to volunteer for a month or the entire semester is welcome to do so. Please email me at patrick.matt@lmunet.edu if you would like to volunteer. Also, we only recycle aluminum cans and plastic bottles. Please do not put soup cans or any other trash in the bins as it makes more work for your peers. Please rinse out milk jugs and other containers that might sour.
Thank you and welcome

For those of you hanging around this summer, there is a great opportunity to volunteer and have fun on the local lakes. It is through Patricia Neal Innovative Recreation Cooperative and the dates are listed. The link is to a video showing exactly what we do. The events are one day, start in the morning and finish in the early evening depending on how many participants show up. The highlighted event is a full weekend of camping and is the last day of a free summer camp for children with amputations. If anyone is interested, please email me. It looks like I will be unable to go to the June 6th and July 18th events, but I can get you in contact with the organizers. We would not need many volunteers and if we have too many, you get to hang out and enjoy the lake.
